We see research as a participatory space for innovation and combine professional knowledge with students' creative design approaches.
The USE-LESS Center for Sustainable Design Strategies at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hanover combines the research activities of the Fashion-, Product- and Interior-Design programmes. Our focus is on the development of innovative and environmentally friendly materials, the use of local resources, serial upcycling approaches and slow fashion. Through applied research, we integrate practical testing of sustainable design strategies directly into our research work in order to drive our results and projects forward.
We explore how products can be designed to be recyclable, resource-efficient and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Another central aspect of our work is the investigation of consumer behavior and the development of strategies for sustainable change. We are constantly looking for opportunities to network with international partners in order to promote global exchange and cooperation.
Involving students on aspects of education for sustainable development and an active transfer to the general public plays a major role in our work and is consistently implemented in all our projects.
