USE-LESS Center

The USE-LESS Center for Sustainable Design Strategies at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hanover combines the research activities of the Fashion-, Product- and Interior- Design programmes. Our focus is on the development of innovative and environmentally friendly materials, the use of local resources, serial upcycling approaches and slow fashion. We integrate practical testing of sustainable design strategies directly into our work through applied research, in order to push our results and projects forward.

Tools

The USE–LESS product lifecycle is the most important tool for research and teaching and was developed in the research project Slow Fashion. The graphic serves as a communication medium to illustrate the placement of design methods. It is continuously expanded and used in introductory events, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, discussions, and in collaboration with partners from industry.

Our large network of international partners offers the opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange. Together with experts at museums, NGOs, city and civil society organizations, private companies, start-ups and educational institutions, we have the ability to drive forward an inclusive transfer of knowledge and work together on innovative solutions. Both research and education are closely interlinked with our partners. This gives students the opportunity to work on real problems in a hands-on manner, get to know corporate structures and strengthen their skills in a future oriented way.
